New Port Richey celebrates its 90th birthday tomorrow.  There will be lots going on, with the “official” part of the event starting at 4:45pm in Railroad Square.  Complete details can be found on the city website.  I’ve been told that I’ll be cutting a cake, so come on down and enjoy the event with me.

By all accounts, yesterday’s pub crawl / zombie apocalypse went off well downtown.  I’m not into either crawling pubs or zombies, so I passed.  It is nice to see the HMA part of Greater New Port Richey Main Street organizing this sort of “mini” event though.  Next month will be a shop and stroll on Small Business Saturday.  I’ll be there for sure.

Yesterday’s big event in town was a fall festival at First Methodist.  I drove my pickup around in clockwise circles for hours, pulling the hay wagon.  I had to do a few figure eights just to make sure that the truck could still turn left.  If you need a pumpkin for Halloween, the scouts of Troop 8 are selling them on Adams Street, right behind the church.  There will be a “trunk and treat” there Friday night.  I’m planning on decorating my little pumpkin of a car for the event.  Speaking of cars…

Today featured a car show around Orange Lake  and Barktoberfest in Sims Park.  My favorite part was seeing a 1966 Barracuda.  My mom had a 1965 Barracuda and I had a 1967 Barracuda, so it brought back memories.  In addition to the Barracuda, there was a Chevy 409.  I’ve been humming the Beach Boys song by the same name all afternoon.

There is no city council meeting this week.  Mercifully, the following Tuesday, November 4th  is election day.  With the millions of dollars that have been spent on mud-slinging in the race for governor, I believe I can speak on behalf of Floridians everywhere that we are all looking forward to more quality advertising starting on Wednesday, November 5th… Where are Ron Popeil and his Ronco Veg-A-Matic when we need them?  It makes you long for another EDS commercial like their Superbowl ad from a few years back.

Wednesday will also feature a special city council meeting.  Among other things, we will be considering the purchase of about six acres on the west end of the Grey Preserve, allowing us to add a second entrance into this gem of a park.

There are a bunch of  exciting things in store for New Port Richey this next year.  I’ll announce them here as soon they are finalized.
