I’m sure most of you have noticed the construction fencing that has encircled Sims Park for a few weeks now.  The contractor, Hennessy Construction Services, will be at Tuesday night’s meeting to present the final plans for the structures we will be adding to the park between now and Christmas.  Here are the pictures that were released in the City Manager’s Weekly report:

I’m quite excited to see how the park will look once the construction dust settles.  Sims Park will be more family friendly and provide better facilities for the concerts and other special events you’ve come to expect there.

I hope you will be able to attend our meeting at 7:00pm in the city council chambers.  Sims Park is only one of a number of important items on the agenda Tuesday night.

There will be a key presentation on the condition of the Hacienda Hotel.  This report can be found in the July 7 agenda available on the city website.

The bid award for the multi-use trail that will extend from the River Walk (the corner of Mass and Boulevard) to the Rec Center is on the agenda.

Our efforts to improve the livability of the city are also reflected in first readings of proposed ordinances on Loitering / Prowling and a Rental Housing External Inspection Program.

For good measure, we have a resolution on the agenda that sets the maximum tax millage rate at the current rate, allowing us to reduce the rate as the budget season progresses, but not raise it.

We aren’t going to slow down after Tuesday night either:   We’ve got a multi-million dollar expansion of the Recreation Center, a kayak launch at the Frances Avenue Park, and street-scaping for Madison Street on the July 21st agenda!

I hope to see you Tuesday night.
